Bernadinism
It would be easy to describe Alva Bernadine as a photographer and "sexual surrealist", but I don't think that manages to really capture what he is doing very well. How do you describe the wit present in a person's dreams and nightmares? Many of his images have a story to tell about the human mind. Some of those stories are humorous, while others are erotic or disturbing. If I had to sum up his paintings and photos, I think I'd say that he was a "master of psychological exhibitionism". At times this manifests in photographs, but at other times it manifests in paintings or in the written word. I found myself delighted and laughing out loud as I read his work. One minute he will declare something as grandiose as, "Bernadinism is a most solipsistic, hierarchical and elitist system. If you are not named Alva Bernadine then you are excluded." The next minute he'll disarm you with something like, "She told me what she was going to do to me. I was disgusted! Chiefly because I had not thought of it first." Fetishists may particularly appreciate his unique SM snapshots in the series, "Four hundred and One Blows". It captures the look of flesh upon impact by an object like a paddle or spoon. Prints of his work are offered and are limited editions. I would like to have seen more info on purchasing them, but he does have clear contact info so that you can gather that from the artist himself. His work has been seen in publications as varied as SkinTwo and Vogue. Various reviews of his work and of his book "Bernadinism: How to Dominate Men and Subjugate Women" are available. My one complaint? Loud religious music will strike you deaf if you surf this site with the sound on. Be advised! A new favorite, and a link that I‘ll be passing on to close friends. - Vamp
